Google leaves no rock – no matter how ancient – unturned

Why bother booking a trip the Yucatan, taking the long bus to Chichen Itza and suffering the 100 degree weather when you can just enjoy the same experience from the comfort of your own home?

I’m guessing this was the pitch by some clever fellow in Mountain View just before they had this poor guy bike 200 lbs of equipment around all day in the hot-humid jungle. I understand the idea of bring the whole world to your fingertips Google, but perhaps a little mystery is a good thing? By fully mapping a places like Chichen Itza, I believe Google is dissuading people from actually visiting these places, or in the best case ruining the awe you get from seeing them the first time in person. Either way, I think we have enough shit keeping us from going out and seeing the world, and this is just one more thing keeping us at home on our asses.

Hilarious. Love that it’s on a bike!

NOW IF THEY WOULD JUST COME TO GUAM. People don’t use addresses here, so it would help to have a visual when you get directions like “We live right across the XYZ building next to the ABC business.” (And yes, they say “across” and not “across from”. Kinda funny at first, but I like the prepositional minimalism…)
